A window into nature by means of offices
Office design does not only take into account everything inside a building, but also everything that surrounds it, since it too plays a part in the daily experience of the users of a building, regulating their mood and even their levels of concentration and creativity.
At the drawing board, the site of a building is always taken in account, so that it blends in with its surroundings and the area’s unique characteristics in the best way possible.
In the case of Colonial, we have many buildings that have been adapted to their surrounding environments, designed with the aim of allowing the outside inside, thus bringing users closer to nature.
Working with beach views
In the case of Torre Marenostrum, its unique location on the Barcelona seafront makes the offices a unique viewpoint over the ocean.
With large glass windows that let the natural light in at all times of the day, this spectacular building, which resembles the moment at which the sea’s waves break against the rocks, is not only part of Barcelona’s coastal skyline but also provides people using the offices with 360-degree views of the city, including the beach and the ocean as well as all the different neighborhoods and the most important landmarks, such as the Sagrada Familia.
Blending in with nature and protecting native wildlife
The Sant Cugat Nord office building, situated in the north of the metropolitan area of Barcelona, is another benchmark in terms of blending in with the environment and is also committed to protecting local flora and fauna. Particularly notable is the butterfly reserve, which provides food and a sustainable habitat to the 25 different species found in the area.
Its commitment goes beyond this, however. The building boasts different systems and features that succeed in creating a perfect natural refuge. The outer wall, for example, is covered in 20sq. m of greenery, featuring key species for the surrounding habitats. Its relationship with nature also comes by way of movable elements placed in the interior, including forty planters with purifying plants which improve the quality of the air we breathe.
Although buildings are not always surrounded by an extensive natural environment, there are many ways in which nature can be incorporated into the day-to-day life of offices. For instance, through green roofs, construction based on natural raw materials and even the creation of spaces, such as terraces, which allow people to be exposed to the outdoors.
