22@: Barcelona's innovation district
The 22@ technology district was born as an urban renewal project in 2000, with the aim of converting two hundred hectares of industrial land in the Poblenou neighbourhood into a modern productive district for companies and start-up.
Today, more than 8,800 companies are based here, turning this area into a Spanish 'Silicon Valley'.
This part of Poblenou is not conceived only for large companies, but it also includes residential areas, green areas, hotels and some of the main universities such as Universitat Pompeu Fabra or Universitat de Barcelona.
Despite its great transformation, the neighbourhood has mixed elements of the past with the new buildings. Walking through its streets you can see the chimneys and facades of old factories in contrast with futuristic buildings such as the Agbar Tower, the Design Museum, the Imagina building or the Interface building.
Southern Europe's digital hub
Its proximity to the sea and the large number of offices, coworking spaces and business centres make it the most popular neighbourhood for companies.
Colonial has six buildings in this district: Wittwood, Ciutat de Granada, 150, Diagonal-Glòries, Diagonal, 197, Sancho de Ávila 110-130 and Illacuna.
The surrounding area
The new productive heart of the city is articulated by Avenida Diagonal, Barcelona's main business axis, which in its first section connects two important points: Plaça de les Glòries, the future cultural and administrative centre of the city, and the Barcelona International Convention Centre.
In the neighbourhood you will also find two of Barcelona's biggest shopping centres: Glòries and Diagonal Mar.
Public transport
The 22@ is a district that is connected to other areas of the city thanks to its three metro lines L1, L2, L4 and the V27 bus and T4 tram lines. It also stands out for its proximity to Sants station and El Prat airport.
All these characteristics make 22@ the main attraction of Barcelona: a neighbourhood that breathes innovation and at the same time is an ideal place to live and work.
